Squint Mode (We See You, Night Owl)

So, y'all got an iPad on stage & it's like, totally backlit already. Revolutionary, we know. This means you can ditch those dead trees (aka paper charts) & your eyes won't spontaneously combust under stage lights. Bonus: smaller screen = somehow easier to read. Wild, right? Higher contrast, sharper text — it's like magic, except it's just… technology. Works on chord charts, PDFs, & whatever other file types you imported & forgot about. You're welcome.

When You Actually Need This

Playing in a dim cave or outside where the sun exists? Yeah, you'll get it real quick. White paper & black text in low light = chef's kiss for eye strain. Plus that blinding glow from your screen makes you look like a radioactive ghost on stage. Cute. Want to keep your peepers happy & stop your audience from getting distracted by your neon face? Low light mode is your new bestie.

Turn On Squint-Free Mode (AKA: Don't Blind Yourself)

Good news: Low light mode is lazy & just copies whatever iOS/iPadOS dark mode is doing. Your device goes dark at night? OnSong says "bet, we're dark too." Or you can be extra & toggle it manually with an action. Wanna fine-tune? Go to Settings » Display Settings » Low Light Mode.

But wait, there's more! You can also flip low light mode per song, cuz why not. Tap the sliders icon in the Menubar to open Style Preferences, jump to the Document tab, & toggle low light mode independent of your device's mood ring. Go rogue. Do it per-song if you're feelin' spicy.

Now your chord chart & menus vibe with a black background & white text (very goth, very cool). But if you're that person who needs white menus & black text, we got you. Hit Settings » Display Settings » Low Light Mode » Use Dark Menus and Interface & change it up.

Bossing Low Light Mode Around with Actions

Wanna control low light mode like you control your life decisions? (spoiler: you probably don't.) Use a foot pedal, hot corner, or MIDI trigger to toggle it on & off.
