Twisty Knobs & Dials

Gears = Your Foot Pedal on Steroids (Basically)

Gears let you turn one sad little foot pedal into a Swiss Army knife of actions. Seriously. One 4-switch pedal? Try dozens of bleepin' commands. You're welcome.

Configuring Gears (AKA: The Setup That'll Make Your Brain Hurt)

Wanna use 'em? Tap that icon in the lower right corner of the Foot Pedal Setup Shizzle. BAM. Gears appear. By default you get one gear—thrilling, we know. Now go configure those foot pedal switches to actually do stuff.

Adding Gears (aka: Going Up in Transmission)

Hit the "+" button in the bottom right. New gear? Cool. Now tap it to pick it. Close the gears menu & configure your pedals again. ZOMG, you now have TWO totally different action sets on the same pedal. You're basically a wizard.

Editing Gears (aka: Naming Your Digital Babies)

Numbered gears? Cute. But you probably wanna name 'em like a normal human. Tap the edit button in the upper left, then tap the gear name & rename away. Live your best life.

You can also reorder gears in edit mode. The order = how you'll shift through 'em. It's not rocket science, but we're explaining it anyway.

In edit mode, tap that red minus on the left to yeet gears you don't need anymore.

Shifting Gears (aka: Actually Using This Thing)

Plot twist: you gotta actually shift to these gears. Wild, right? Configure a foot pedal or hot corner to handle it. Pick Shift Up, Shift Down, or Unshift from the Actions Menu. Congrats, you figured it out.

Cycling Through Gears (aka: The Live Performance Flex)

When you're up there rockin' it, shifting's gotta be fast & intuitive AF. As you shift, OnSong displays your current gear number in the lower left corner. If you named it (good job, you overachiever), that shows up instead.

Here's how the shifting shenanigans work:

  • Shift Up cranks through your gears upward. On Gear 1? Boom—Gear 2, Gear 3, etc. Hit the ceiling? Cycles back to Gear 1 so you keep rollin'.

  • Shift Down goes the other direction. On Gear 4? Goes to Gear 3, Gear 2, you get it. Hit Gear 1? Bounces back to your highest gear. It's like a musical trampoline.

  • Unshift = NOPE. Back to Gear 1. No questions asked.

  • Return to first gear is that toggle at the bottom that's already on by default (you're welcome). After you do literally anything, BOOM—back to Gear 1 automatically. Perfect for when you're messaging or being a distracted performer. Hey, it happens.
